Shearwater Group (SWG) , the cybersecurity, advisory and managed security services group, said David Williams will step down as Chair with effect from 31 January 2026, ending a tenure of more than ten years with the company.

Robin Southwell OBE, an Independent Non-Executive Director, has been appointed Chair and will take up the role from the same date. Southwell joined Shearwater in October 2016 and has four decades of experience in aerospace and defence, including Chief Executive Officer roles at Airbus UK and Airtanker, as well as senior positions at BAE Systems.

Following his appointment as Chair, Southwell will also become Chair of the Remuneration Committee and the Nomination Committee, which were previously chaired by Williams.

David Williams said: "The focus of these past few years has been on rebuilding the business organically, and I am delighted that this has now been achieved, as demonstrated by the more positive FY25 results. Following ten years as Chair, and with the Group in a stronger position, this marks a natural time for me to step down. I have no doubt that the company is well placed to succeed, supported by a strong management team, a robust balance sheet and a healthy pipeline of opportunities."

Robin Southwell OBE said: "The Board would like to express its gratitude to David for his dedication over the last ten years and thank him for his valued leadership and guidance. I am looking forward to taking on the role as Chair and continuing to support the Group at what is an exciting time for the business."

This looks like a steady, planned transition, with Shearwater opting for continuity by elevating an existing non-executive director. Going forward, Southwell’s blue-chip leadership background should be helpful as the Group looks to build on its improved FY25 performance.
