Great Southern Copper (GSCU ) has commenced its in-fill and extensional induced polarisation geophysics survey at the Cerro Negro prospect on the Especularita project in Chile.
The survey comprises five lines of IP-resistivity for a total of up to six line kilometres and is designed to infill data gleaned from a previous broad-spaced exploration survey and provide 3D anomaly drill targeting.
It will also extend the previous survey to the east to cover Monolith silver copper exploration target, while line extensions to the west will target potential mineralisation in the hanging wall to the Mostaza fault zone.
The results generated will assist with final targeting for the planned Phase IV drilling programme.
"We are excited to have this survey underway as it is another important test of the potential to expand the known mineralisation at Cerro Negro,” said Sam Garrett, chief executive of Great Southern Copper.
“In particular, this survey is a key test of the Monolith zone which exhibits copper-silver mineralisation identified in outcrop over a 700 metre by 400 metre area that is very similar in character to the high-grade copper-silver mineralisation discovered below the Mostaza pit. Establishing a link between the two mineralised centres is a critical step in further understanding the architecture of the larger system and will provide important guidance for the exploration drilling of Phase IV at Cerro Negro. Planning and permitting for Phase IV drilling at Cerro Negro is at an advanced stage and we look forward to announcing the start of drilling soon."

Great Southern has been systematically expanding the areas of known and prospective mineralisation across Especularita, and Cerro Negro is one of its most promising areas. The upcoming drilling there will be crucial in establishing what the real potential is, and it’s good to see the company moving closer towards that next step with this IP survey. Lots going on at Great Southern, and the shares were up 7% in early trade following this news. The market is beginning to sit up and take notice, especially with the copper price riding so high.
