Georgina Energy (GEX) has provided an update on drilling preparations for the Hussar prospect re-entry well in permit EP513, including ongoing discussions with Ensign Energy regarding the potential use of the Ensign 970 drilling rig.
EP513 is located in the Amadeus Basin in the Northern Territory, Australia.
The company said Ensign has until 18 March to respond to the standard drilling contract issued by Aztech/Westmarket Oil & Gas Pty Ltd. Meanwhile, Georgina is continuing to review other rig options before any contract is finalised.
In parallel, planning work for the drilling campaign is progressing. The company is preparing access for a water well drilling rig and organising further reconnaissance visits with contractors to repair access roads and the site airstrip. These works are intended to allow rapid mobilisation of the drilling rig and associated service companies once drilling activities commence.
Georgina’s technical consultant, Aztech Well Construction, continues to issue requests for quotation to support the drilling programme. These include equipment and services such as casing and wellhead supply, electric logging, casing running and cementing, drilling fluid engineering, wellsite geology, mudlogging, and gas sampling and laboratory analysis.
Meanwhile, following the execution of an off-take framework agreement with Harlequin Energy, Georgina said it is working closely with Harlequin and its partners, who are expected to provide funding for the drilling of the Hussar well and potential field development.
The company remains on track for civil engineering access and site works to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Preparations for drill testing the prospect remain targeted for the third quarter of 2026.
The proposed drilling rig under discussion is an Automated Drilling Rig (ADR)-1500 model capable of lifting 750,000 pounds and drilling to depths of about 5,000 metres using five-inch drill pipe. The planned total depth for the Hussar well is about 2,800 metres.
Georgina Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Anthony Hamilton said: “The Company continues to undertake the necessary preparatory planning and civil engineering works required to enable the drill testing of this exciting prospect in Q3, 2026, as guided. With 300 km2 of area closure, the Hussar prospect is one of the largest subsalt Helium, Hydrogen and Hydrocarbons prospects in onshore Australia.”

The update shows Georgina steadily advancing the operational groundwork ahead of drilling at Hussar. While the rig contract is not yet finalised, the company is progressing access works, procurement and service planning while securing potential funding support through its agreement with Harlequin Energy. If timelines hold, the planned third quarter 2026 drilling could mark a significant test of one of the largest subsalt helium and hydrogen prospects identified onshore in Australia.
