Georgina Energy (GEX)  is advancing preparations for its Mt Winter prospect in Australia, with an onsite inspection scheduled for 18 to 23 October ahead of a planned seismic survey and prospect re-entry drilling in 2027.

The company’s technical and operations team, alongside Aztech, will inspect the proposed seismic programme and drill site, accessing Mt Winter through the Mereenie oil and gas field.

Georgina plans to accelerate the prospect re-entry and development programme at Mt Winter, which has a 2U prospective recoverable resources of 234 billion cubic feet of helium, 214 billion cubic feet of hydrogen and 1.7 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

The next stage is expected to include a new seismic survey covering about 190 line kilometres. Georgina said the work should provide a clearer understanding of the stratigraphy and formation tops, while helping to better define target zones. The most recent existing seismic data covering the prospect dates from 1981.

The modern survey is also expected to improve the definition of Direct Hydrocarbon Indicators and potential accumulations of hydrogen, helium and natural gas.

Seismic acquisition is planned for early 2027, with prospect re-entry drilling targeted to begin by mid 2027. Georgina is continuing discussions with drilling contractors, including Ensign Energy, ahead of a formal tender process expected to start in early 2027.

The company is also in discussions with Harlequin Energy over potential funding for the pre-drill seismic programme, subject to formal agreements.

Georgina Energy’s Chief Executive Officer Anthony Hamilton said: “We look forward to drilling the Mt Winter prospect in 2027, following additional confirmatory seismic, which coupled with the Hussar prospect re-entry well has game changing, company-making potential.”

Mt Winter is located in the Amadeus Basin, a 170,000 square kilometre sedimentary basin that remains relatively lightly explored despite hosting several long producing oil and gas fields and discoveries containing helium and hydrogen.

At Mt Winter, independent work has identified a combined 960 metres of potential reservoir across the Heavitree Formation and fractured basement. The prospect covers about 20 square kilometres.

The October site work is another practical step towards Mt Winter’s planned 2027 exploration programme. New seismic should help Georgina refine its targets ahead of drilling, while progress on contractor discussions and potential seismic funding could further support the timetable.
